Lindsey Erdody will join Free Press Indiana (FPI) as editor in chief of its statewide newsroom. Erdody, who has held leadership positions with Axios Local, WFYI and the Indianapolis Business Journal, starts her new role March 2.
She will lead a team of reporters who will cover Indiana legislative policies, issues that affect rural communities, and other topics of interest to Hoosiers. Erdody is the second journalist to join the statewide FPI newsroom. In September, Ashley Ford was hired as the statewide women & girls reporter.
FPI’s mission is to ensure Hoosiers everywhere have access to news and information they need to thrive and to lead change in their communities. It collaborates with partners around the state to fill news gaps.
FPI’s first newsroom, Mirror Indy, launched in 2023 to provide community news in Indianapolis. The newsroom is led by Editor in Chief Oseye Boyd.
Most recently, Erdody served as an editor with Axios Local, overseeing newsroom content and strategy across multiple markets.
“I am so excited to start this new team and bring impactful news coverage to all areas of the state, especially to communities that are increasingly not served by traditional media outlets,” she said. “This is a great opportunity to expand solutions-focused, accountability journalism and better serve Hoosiers.”
Mirror Indy, a nonprofit newsroom, is funded through grants and donations from individuals, foundations and organizations.
